A number of funny picture books seem to have been written with the intention of teaching similes. here are some examples:
My Dog is As Smelly As Dirty Socks by Hano Piven
My Friend is as Sharp as a Pencil by Hano Piven
Crazy Like a Fox by Loreen Leedy
Skin Like Milk, Hair of Silk by Brian P. Cleary
Stubborn as a Mule
"Quick as a Cricket" by Audrey Wood
Many of these books are shown on
Mrs Warner's blog entry about similes
.
Bruce Lansky has a
post about how he taught similes to his students using a simile poem he wrote
. The book is called "If Pigs Could Fly".
There is a really fascinating
Mix-n-Math Similes and Metaphors lesson
(or series of lessons?) by "Mrs M" about her students working on similes and metaphors to describe themselves.
